Optional battery backup for NBN

The NBN has issued a reminder that optional battery backup becomes mandatory from 2 October. From this date, informed consent needs to be obtained by:

  • making the end user aware of the effect on the retail product if a battery backup service is provided or not; and
  • providing the end user with an opportunity to make a choice whether to order the NBN fibre service with a power supply with battery backup and battery-related notifications (battery backup service) or a standard power supply unit. The exception to this is a downstream priority assistance service, which must be provided with a battery backup service.

To assist with this process, NBN Co has created Informed Consent Guidelines. The battery backup service is available to order in NBN Co platforms (Service Portal and B2B Industry Interface V6).
