Engineers Australia has urged the government to heed the recommendations of the Infrastructure Finance and Funding Reform report. The report was released yesterday by Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Anthony Albanese.
“Effective delivery of infrastructure projects underpins our economic security, and Engineers Australia supports moves to give a higher priority to infrastructure funding,” said Engineers Australia CEO Stephen Durkin.
“We welcome consideration of innovative funding models for infrastructure projects and we call on all Australian governments to adopt the recommendations of the report as a matter of priority.”
Durkin said Engineers Australia was pleased with recommendations to improve visibility, planning and financing of infrastructure projects.
“With the engineering workforce experiencing chronic skills shortages, any move that increases market certainty will enable engineers and their employers to better plan for future projects. This improves the employment outlook for engineers working from project to project, hopefully keeping qualified engineers in the profession,” Durkin said.
