A global alliance of lighting industry players has been announced. The Connected Lighting Alliance aims to promote and stimulate the development of open-standard wireless lighting solutions and offer maximum interoperability.

Founding members of the alliance are GE Lighting, Lutron, Osram, Panasonic, Philips and Toshiba. The alliance’s initial focus will be on consumer lighting applications.

An open association, the alliance welcomes all parties interested in contributing to the alliance’s goals. It has identified that consumers are confused and frustrated by the diversity of non-interchangeable wireless communication solutions on the market and hopes to promote global adoption and growth of interoperable wireless lighting solutions.

To make wireless lighting products and solutions interoperable and easy to operate, the alliance will engage with open standards bodies and regulators, as well as encouraging the development of a robust wireless lighting control ecosystem.
